Rs. 10Most shopkeepers judge a cold drink by the rupee difference between what they pay and what they charge. That is the least useful number on the shelf. What actually decides whether a SKU earns its space is how many times your money turns over in a month, and how much of your fridge it occupies while doing it.
Take a simple comparison. A premium bottle with a large sticker margin might sell four units a day. A Rs. 10 impulse bottle at a busy counter can sell twenty-five, because nobody deliberates over ten rupees in peak heat. Even if the per-bottle margin is smaller, the capital you invested comes back several times faster, and every cycle earns again. Turnover, not sticker margin, is what fills your daily cash box.
The second variable is chilling. Warm stock is dead stock in a beverage business. A chilled facing at eye level typically moves three to four times what the same bottles move from a carton on the floor. Electricity is a real cost, so the honest way to think about it is per bottle: a full, fast-rotating fridge spreads that cost across far more sales than a half-empty one.
Third is breakage and expiry, the quiet killer of shop margins. Our supply terms replace leakers and damages on the next weekly visit rather than making you argue for a credit note. That single policy is usually worth more to a retailer than a rupee off the rate, because it removes the risk of stocking depth — and depth is what stops you running dry on a Sunday afternoon when demand peaks.
Fourth is placement. Three bottles of the same flavour side by side read as a brand; one bottle alone reads as leftover stock. Colour-block your facings, keep one chilled row and one warm reserve row, and put a small crate beside the counter for the paying queue. Impulse purchases happen in the last three seconds before payment, and that crate is the cheapest merchandising you will ever do.
Fifth is repeat rate. Chatpata drinks pair with food, which means the same customer often buys twice in a day — once with a snack, once on the way home. Sweet colas rarely do that. Over a month, that behaviour quietly doubles the effective demand from your regulars without a single new customer walking in.
Put those together over a year and the picture changes shape. A counter that starts at six cases a week in month one commonly settles higher once the flavour is known in the lane, and higher again once summer arrives. Add event weekends, festival weeks and the school-and-college rush, and the annual curve looks nothing like the flat line most shopkeepers assume when they trial a new brand.
None of this is a guarantee, and we will not pretend otherwise. Your lane, your footfall and your fridge decide the outcome. What we control is availability, chilled stock, replaced breakage, honest paperwork and a brand that people are already searching for city by city. Start with five cases, keep them cold, and let the counter tell you the truth in two weeks.
